BMI Country Insurance Reports - Sample BMI Executive Summary[TOP]
In Q307 we have incorporated actual data for 2006 in our insurance sector reports. In Q207 much of this data was not available, and we had to make estimates. In international comparison tables, we have also incorporated data from 30 new countries, in addition to the 58 for which we had data in Q207. We are now therefore able to place each country into a truly global context. Actual non-life premiums rose from PLN15,658mn (US$4,848mn) in 2005 to PLN16,413mn (US$5,295mn) in 2006. Non-life premiums therefore increased by 5% in złoty terms and by 9% in US dollar terms. Looking forward, we anticipate that non-life premiums will grow by 16% annually in złoty terms in 2006-11, or by 20% annually in US dollar terms in 2006-11. Actual life premiums rose from PLN15,324mn (US$4,744mn) in 2005 to PLN21,099mn (US$6,806mn) in 2006. Life premiums therefore increased by 38% in złoty terms and by 43% in US dollar terms. Looking forward, we anticipate that life premiums will grow by 11% annually in złoty terms in 2006- 11: we expect that life premiums will grow by 14% annually in US dollar terms. In 2006 the two most important lines within the non-life segment were motor and property/fire. These two lines, respectively, accounted for 61% and 18% of non-life premiums. We have not, as yet, been able to find a detailed breakdown of Poland’s life segment. Poland is, among the 88 countries for which we have gathered data, in the second quartile in terms of absolute non-life premiums in 2006, and in the first quartile in terms of absolute growth of non-life premiums last year. We would therefore categorise the Poland as a large-sized national market for nonlife insurance and one where premiums are growing very quickly. This growth is being driven by a booming economy and by good increases in non-life penetration. Poland is in the second quartile in terms of absolute life premiums in 2006, and in the first quartile in terms of absolute growth of life premiums last year. We would therefore categorise Poland as a largesized national market for life insurance and one where premiums are growing dramatically. In spite of the slightly negative population growth in Poland, all of the huge growth is being driven by an increase in life density. At the end of the forecast period life density will have reached US$350 per capita (up from US$179 in 2006). In 2006 non-life penetration in Poland fell -3.3%, while life density rose by 43.8% in US dollar terms. |
