Airtel Bangladesh Works To Develop SMS Messaging Solution

News: Airtel Bangladesh have partnered up with Comviva to provide more advanced SMS facilities, TeleGeography reports. The two companies will deliver messaging solutions that cover Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), Short Message Service Center (SMSC) and Bulk Messaging Gateway (BMG) in a bid to vastly reduce the overall cost of Airtel's operator portal. The move will also give the cellco a single-window web-based environment to access, create, execute and manage services. Airtel will be able to manage an increased messaging data load, without too much of an upheaval of existing infrastructure and major investment. The solution will also optimally deliver messages with minimal latency during periods of intense continuous traffic.

BMI View: BMI's medium-term outlook for Bangladesh's telecommunication sector remains bright, given growth potential in the nation's underserved mobile market. The latest Q113 result shows evidence of a strong subscriptions rebound after negative growth in Q412 due to government's ban on unregistered prepaid SIMs. However, we remain cautiously optimistic on data growth given repeated 3G auction delays. Internet penetratio n should increase in the medium term if the government stays committed to internet infrastructure investment.
