Batumi Registers 93% Rise In Dry Cargo Turnover


News: The Batumi Sea Port in Georgia registered a 93% year-on-year (y-o-y) rise in dry cargo turnover to 444,529 tonnes in the first quarter of 2013, reports Port News. Raw sugar and ore bulk cargo amounted to 26% of the total dry cargo turnover each, while ammonium nitrate constituted 22.56%. Meanwhile, grain, cement and liquid cargo also posted a 310%, 135% and 7% jump in Q113. The port handled 169 vessels in the same period. Additionally, imports recorded a 40% y-o-y increase in Q113, while dry cargo production is likely to reach 1.8mn tonnes in 2013.
