Citycell Looks For Investment Partner For GSM Network

News: Bangladeshi mobile operator CityCell is seeking an investment partner to switch its network from CDMA to GSM. Chinese telecoms operator China Telecom and Indian operator Reliance are in talks with the Bangladeshi operator for a possible collaboration, reports the Financial Express. However, the collaboration plans would depend on the terms of the upcoming 3G auction scheduled to be held on September 2 2013. Regulations regarding collaboration, foreign investment and deployment schedules, as well as the starting prices for 3G licences have yet to be made public. Citycell is facing a continuous decline in its subscriber base due to its CDMA technology. In April 2013, Citycell had just 1.43mn subscribers out of the total 100.1mn subscribers in the country.
