Danone's Nutricia Unit Considers Legal Action Against Fonterra Over False Botulism Alarm

News: French dairy company Danone's Nutricia unit is considering legal action against New Zealand dairy company Fonterra after the latter recalled products because of incorrect tests that led to an international food safety scare, reports GMA News. Initial tests on Fonterra's products led the company to warn that whey protein used in the products contained bacteria that could cause botulism but subsequent testing identified a different strain of the bacteria that posed no health risk. The contamination scare led to product recalls in nine countries, including those by Nutricia, which ordered a recall of 67,000 tonnes of infant milk formula in New Zealand.
