DOH Reports 43% Rise In HIV/AIDS Cases


News: The number of new HIV/AIDS cases in the Philippines has increased 43% to 486 in February 2014, according to the Department of Health. Of the 486 HIV/AIDS cases, 36 had already developed AIDS. The number of HIV/AIDS cases reported in January and February totalled 934. Data from the Philippine HIV and AIDS Registry reveal that the bulk of new HIV cases were reported from the National Capital Region, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Central Visayas and Davao. Of the 486 HIV positive cases, 458 were contracted through unprotected sex, while the rest through needle sharing among drug users.
