DP World Melbourne Receives Eight New Straddle Carriers

News: DP World Melbourne has taken the delivery of eight new Terex Noell NSC 644 E Diesel-Electric straddle carriers for its container handling operations at West Swanson Terminal at the Australian Port of Melbourne. The newly acquired carriers will enter service in time for the peak Christmas import season. The straddles are equipped with advanced power management software which offers assistance in reducing fuel consumption. UAE-based port operator DP World has initiated a three-month trial to use Caltex B20 bio-diesel fuel for the eight new straddle carriers. This move forms part of efforts by the operator to decrease carbon footprints at the Port of Melbourne. The results of the trial will be reviewed by the operator and the B20 might be potentially utilised in the remainder of DP World Melbourne's straddle carrier fleet.
