EMB Imposes PHP50,000 Fine On Nicua Mining


News: The Philippine Environment Management Bureau (EMB) has imposed a PHP50,000 (US$1,177) fine on Nicua Mining Company for contaminating a lake, reports the Sun Star. Wastewater from the company's nearby mine leaked into Lake Bito in MacArthur, resulting in the contamination of the lake's water. EMB Official Reynaldo Barra said that Nicua Mining Company was required to comply with Presidential Decree 1586 which sets out the prescribed environmental impact of mining operations.
