Ethiopia Secures Funding For Water Services
News: The Ethiopian government secured a US$205mn International Development Association credit from the World Bank to increase access to clean drinking water and improve sanitation services. The funding will support the Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Project, which seeks to meet the country's One WaSH National Programme, as well as growth and transformation targets of 100% access to water and 84% improvement in domestic latrines by 2015. The project will fund about 6,300 rural water schemes and rehabilitate and expand water supply systems for about 70 towns. The project will also fund the improvement of water supply for schools and health clinics. The project's works will generate employment opportunities and link about 2mn individuals to the formal water supply system in rural and urban areas of the country.
