Funds Insufficient To Treat Rare Diseases, Says Official


News: Current funding is not enough to purchase medicines to treat patients suffering from rare diseases in the Samara region of Russia, reports vademec.ru. This information was stated by Galina Egorova, the head of pharmacy and drug supply at the Samara region's health ministry. Funds worth RUB17.8mn (US$49,641) have been allocated for the treatment of patients suffering with rare diseases in the region in 2014. However, the region needs more than 13 times the allocated amount - requiring more than RUB230mn (US$6.41mn) - to treat all patients suffering from rare diseases in the region. There are 308 patients suffering from rare diseases in the region, of whom 134 are children.
