Globalive Wireless Acquires 100,000 Mobile Users

News: Canadian telecoms firm Globalive Wireless ( Wind Mobile) acquired more than 100,000 net new mobile users in FY13/14. The operator added 26,000 new mobile users in Q114, with a total of 702,000 customers, of which more than 55% were postpaid. The operator's performance has been better than the country's other three major mobile operators Rogers Communications, Bell and Telus. Rogers lost a net 71,000 wireless subscribers in Q114, while gaining 56,000 year-on-year (y-o-y). Bell lost 16,000 subscribers quarter-on-quarter and gained 90,000 y-o-y. Telus added 11,000 subscribers in Q114 and gained 115,000 y-o-y. Regardless of Wind's performance, parent firm VimpelCom wants to exit the Canadian market as the government blocked the group from taking voting control of Wind for undisclosed reasons, while preventing any of the three national operators from acquiring Wind under federal spectrum trading policy.
