Government Builds National TB Laboratory


News: The Ugandan government is building a national referral tuberculosis (TB) laboratory at Butabika in Luzira, Uganda, to address the issue of delayed tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis in the country, reports allAfrica. The laboratory will help healthcare professionals to attend to the increasing number of patients with multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB), in addition to promoting quick and accurate diagnosis of the disease in the country. The national referral TB laboratory is being built as part of the East African Public Health Lab project and its construction is likely to continue for one year. The World Bank has provided US$10mn to the Ugandan government to build the laboratory. The government will also use the funding to purchase expert equipments and train micro-biologists and lab workers for the TB laboratory.
