Governments To Tender Power Grid Unification Project

News: The governments of Saudi Arabia and Egypt are expected to tender their long-awaited power link project by end-2014 or in early 2015, according to Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Water and Electricity Undersecretary Saleh Al-Awaji (Okaz). Al-Awaji claims the two nations are preparing the tender documents and revising technical specifications of the project. The USD1.5bn project will take three years to complete. The two nations signed an agreement in June 2013 to establish a common electricity grid, with capacity of 3,000MW. The grid is to be financed proportionately by both countries, with Egypt's share projected at USD610mn.
