GS Battery Opens New Factory

News: Taiwanese lead-acid battery maker GS Battery Taiwan has launched a new factory in southern Taiwan's Yongkang, marking the company's 35 th anniversary. The company will manufacture lead-acid batteries for automotive applications and raise the firm's capacity by 50%. The company purchased the land for the factory in 2011 for TWD500mn (US$17.1mn).

BMI View: The parts industry in Taiwan is an important contributor to exports and the island hopes to retain expertise in this area, even if lower-value-added activities (i.e., assembly) are increasingly domiciled in China.
