Lamu Profile To Rise Following Lapsset Project

News: Ecobank Transnational Inc (ETI) has said that the Kenyan port of Lamu could replace Mombasa as the most important facility in the region, reports The Star. Lamu is expected to gain importance following the completion of the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia (Lapsset) transport corridor project. The Lapsset project entails the construction of 6km of berthing docks at Lamu, 1,720km of railway lines, 1,300km of oil pipelines, highways, airports and a refinery. The project is likely to handle petroleum and petroleum products from Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan and Ethiopia.
