Mangalore Sees Cargo Rise


News: Cargo transported at the marshalling yard of the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) in India registered a rise of 54% year-on-year (y-o-y) to 5.807mn tonnes until March 25 of the 2012-2013 fiscal year; this is compared with 3.771mn tonnes handled in the year-ago period. According to NMPT's chairman P. Tamilvanan, this has resulted in the generation of INR3.5bn (US$64.1mn) worth of revenue to the railways. The port authorities have invested in additional infrastructure in order to cope up with a rise in traffic, according to a port trust press release.
