News In Brief - Government Plans To Construct New International Airport



News: The government of Peru is planning the construction of an international airport in Chinchero, near Cusco. An investment of US$460mn is required, with the airport to replace the current airport that has a capacity to only cater to a small number of daytime flights. The country's President Ollanta Humala approved a land acquisition law in order to enable the construction of the airport, which is to handle more tourists and create new job opportunities. The government also revealed plans to improve 1,500km of roads in Cusco. This requires an investment of US$270mn, with financing to be secured from the Peruvian central government and the regional government of Cusco.
