Rail Re-Launch To Solve Congestion At Beira Port

News: The problem of congestion at the Mozambican port of Beira is expected to be solved within three months with the re-launch of railway cargo transport from Beira to Lusaka, according to Cornelder de Moçambique CEO Carlos Mesquita. The problem of congestion had deteriorated over the last 10 years as cargo volumes increased; most cargo had to be transported by road instead of railway. Around 65% to 70% of cargo was transported through road because Companhia Caminhos de Ferro da Beira, which was granted the Beira Railway System's concession, was closed after it failed to comply with its contractual obligations.
