RVR Launches US$9.3mn Technology Upgrade

News: Rift Valley Railways (RVR), the operator of the Kenya-Uganda railway, has launched a US$9.3mn technology upgrade, which would include the installation of a global positioning system-based software to centrally control the movement of trains and cargo along the railway track. RVR, a platform company of Egyptian private equity firm Citadel Capital, has also purchased automated train warrant software, which allows online monitoring from an operations control centre in Nairobi, according to a press release. The upgrade is expected to eliminate waiting time at stations by providing priority track access to trains carrying cargo, according to RVR CEO Darlan De David.
