SAIC Begins Production Of MG6 Compact Passenger Car


News: Chinese automaker Shanghai Automotive Industry (SAIC) has started production of its MG6 compact passenger car at a new plant in the Rayong industrial district in Thailand. SAIC Motor-CP, a joint venture between SAIC and Charoen Pokphand Group, owns the new plant, which can produce 50,000 vehicles annually. The new vehicle, which is based on SAIC's Roewe 550, will be equipped with a 1.8L engine. The company, which has a sales target of 2,000 units for 2014, will start to deliver the vehicle from July. SAIC, which has 15 dealers and service centres currently, plans to double the number by end-2014. It hope to raise its sales to 14,000 in 2015.
