TERCAT Opens New Terminal


News: A new semi-automated deep-water Barcelona Europe South Terminal (BEST) has been opened by Terminal Catalunya (TERCAT), subsidiary of Hong Kong-based port operator Hutchison Port Holdings, in the Spanish Port of Barcelona. The semi-automated terminal is dredged to 16.5metres (m) along with a 1,000m quay and eight ship-to-shore gantry cranes. Following the completion of the phase I, BEST will be having a 1,500m quay, 100 hectare of yard and 18 ship-to-shore gantry cranes. Additionally, the terminal is featured with state-of-the-art nGen operating system in order to facilitate an increase in the efficiency of handling mega vessels.

Spain's inland waterways extend for 1,045km. The country's most important ports and harbours are at: Aviles, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cadiz, Cartagena, Castellon de la Plana, Ceuta, Huelva, La Coruna, Las Palmas (in the Canary Islands), Malaga, Melilla, Pasajes, Gijon, Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands), Santander, Tarragona, Valencia and Vigo.
