Toshiba To Sell Malaysian Chip Business To Amkor


News: Japanese electronics company Toshiba is to sell its Malaysian chip assembly unit to US-based Amkor Technology as part of its strategy to consolidate chip operations, reports Bintulu. Amkor agreed to buy all shares in Toshiba's wholly-owned subsidiary Toshiba Electronics Malaysia, which makes power devices that act as switches in power electronics. Following the completion of the deal, expected in January 2013, Toshiba will shift its focus towards front-end production of power semiconductors.
