Ultima Launches Iögo Yoghurt Brand



News: Canada-based dairy group Ultima Foods, a joint venture between local dairy co-operatives Agropur and Agrifoods, launched its own national yoghurt brand - Iögo - on August 20. The new yoghurt brand is a first for Canada, said Gerry Doute, the president of Ultima. Iögo is the largest brand introduced by a Canadian company in the dairy industry and has seven products lines, including fat-free, probiotic (lactose-free), Greek-style and drinkable yogurt for kids.

BMI View: The Canadian dairy processing industry is an important sector of the economy, accounting for around 15% of total food and beverage exports. The industry employs around 27,000 people and consists of 460 processing plants, of which around 300 are registered with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in order to be able to sell their products outside of their respective provinces. The majority of plants are located in Quebec and Ontario.
