Global Industry Overview
The 2008 Asia Gas & LNG Report begins with an insightful overview of global gas reserves, supply and demand, and the future growth potential of the international gas industry. As more stranded gas deposits become exploitable through advances in extraction and transportation technology, BMI evaluates long-term supply growth potential in the market. This is weighed against demand growth underpinned by the worldwide trend of shifting from oil- to gas-fired power stations, the growing use of gas in EOR processes and unconventional crude production and global efforts to reduce gas flaring.
BMI’s Business Environment Rankings
Find out in the 2008 Asia Gas & LNG Report where BMI ranks China, India, Japan, Vietnam and 10 other gas and LNG markets according to energy demand and supply growth and potential, state involvement, the regulatory and licensing framework, and political and economic risks.
Gas & LNG 5-year Forecast for 14 Asian Markets
BMI’s independent 5-year forecast for oil and natural gas reserves, supply and demand, covers 23 key indicators including production, consumption, value of gas and LNG exports/cost of imports in base case, high and low scenario. Our forecast shows how dramatic gas demand growth led by India and China will see regional net imports rise 65% – from 91bcm in 2007 to 176bcm in 2012 – the strongest growth globally. Indeed, Asia has evolved into the hottest market for LNG globally, and we forecast in the 2008 Asia Gas & LNG Report that the region’s total gas import bill is set to reach US$64.9bn by 2012.
We also assess the supply and demand implications of Japan, China, India and South Korea becoming leading gas importers, and of Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia comprising the main net exporters - and earning a total US$27.5bn of export revenues by 2012
